Beginning in the 2025–26 school year, all certificated educators serving students in grades 7–12 in California will be required to complete the PRISM training, as outlined in Assembly Bill 5. This six-course series is designed to support educators in creating safer, more inclusive school environments for LGBTQ+ students with intersecting identities.

In this breakout session, we’ll offer a real-world overview of what to expect in the PRISM training—including how the training builds foundational knowledge around identity, student experience, and legal rights. We’ll also talk through how site and district leaders can plan ahead to support successful implementation—from scheduling to follow-up dialogue. Importantly, we’ll preview Courses 4–6, which offer practical guidance on building and sustaining peer affinity clubs, identifying and responding to suicide risk factors, and using inclusive pedagogy across content areas.

This session is designed for leaders and educators who want to move beyond compliance and into meaningful preparation. Join us to hear what’s ahead, ask questions, and reflect on how your school or district can create space where every student is seen, supported, and safe.
