As educators and leaders, we know that the classroom is more than just a place to teach subjects — it’s a space where students learn to see themselves and others with respect and compassion. California’s new requirement—AB 5—makes it clear that LGBTQ+ cultural competency training known as PRISM, is not just a best practice, but a legal obligation for certificated educators who serve grades 7-12 starting July 1, 2025.

In this session, I’ll share why this training is so important — not just to meet compliance, but to truly understand and support the diverse identities of our LGBTQ+ students. I’ll talk about the heart behind PRISM, why it matters now more than ever, and how it can help us create schools where every student feels safe, seen, and valued.

We’ll explore stories, insights, and practical ideas to help us all become more empathetic allies and champions for every student’s dignity and identity. Join me for an honest, human-centered conversation about how we can turn this requirement into an opportunity — to learn, grow, and make a real difference in our schools.
